stuart rossStuart Ross talks about his unusual four-decade career in Canadian literature—from selling thousands of his self-published chapbooks on the streets of Toronto, to editing the works of both new and prominent writers, to organizing reading series, book fairs, and writing workshops. Reading from his award-winning fiction, poetry, and essays, Stuart invites your questions about his colourful life in the trenches of CanLit.

Stuart Ross is a writer, editor, writing teacher, and publisher living in Cobourg, Ontario. He sold thousands of his chapbooks on the streets of Toronto in the 1980s, and is now the prize-winning author of twenty books of poetry, fiction, and essays, including Motel of the Opposable Thumbs, A Sparrow Came Down Resplendent (winner of the Canadian Jewish Literary Award for Poetry) and Pockets. His novel Snowball, Dragonfly, Jewwon the Mona Elaine Adilman Prize for Jewish Fiction, and his story collection Buying Cigarettes for the Dogwon the ReLit Prize for Short Fiction. Stuart was the 2010 writer in residence at Queen’s University and has led workshops across the country. His micropress, Proper Tales Press, is in its 40th year of operation.
