On Friday Dec 16 at approximately 12:25 PM, the Royal Bank in downtown Cobourg was robbed.  Although cash was taken, no one was injured.  Shortly after, Quinte West OPP arrested a man at the Trenton OnRoute Service area.  His car, a Cadillac with Quebec plates, was seized.  Some information on the robbery has been released by Cobourg police but more details have been provided by SunMedia - notably Pete Fisher and Steph Crosier.

bank vehicleVehicle of suspect accused of robbing Cobourg's Royal BankEarlier Friday, around 11:15am, the same man had robbed a bank in Bowmanville so local Police were alerted.  The suspect is also wanted for robberies of other Banks (mostly Royal Banks) in Kingston, Richmond Hill, Napanee, Oshawa and Trenton.  The first of these robberies was on August 25th in Kingston.

His method was to hand over a note to a teller saying he was armed and demanding cash. He'd be given cash and would then walk away. In each instance, that was the last known sighting of the man after the robbery.

But the Kingston Police Force, the Ontario Provincial Police, York Regional Police, the Durham Regional Police and in this case Cobourg Police, were working together to locate the suspect.

As Const. Laura Nicolle of the York Regional Police said following the Napanee robbery:  "These people get caught eventually; it only takes so long. "

Bank cameras provided photos to identify the suspect although the investigation is continuing.
